Dental Screening

Good dental health is an important part of your child’s general health. Dental screening helps families to know if their child has a dental problem and helps them to access care. Screening is available to all children and teens age 17 or younger.

A dental screening is a visual look at teeth and gums and is done by a Registered Dental Hygienist. It does not replace a dental examination by a dentist.

UPDATE: At this time, school or preschool based dental screening is unavailable. However, free dental screenings are now available for children and teens age 17 or younger at the following health unit locations:

  • Barrie
  • Collingwood
  • Cookstown
  • Gravenhurst
  • Huntsville
  • Midland
  • Orillia

For more information about dental screening or to make an appointment at a location listed above, please call 705-721-7520 (or toll-free 1-877-721-7520) extension 5867.

We can help you find out if your child is eligible for free dental care through Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO)
