Talking about sexual health

Are you an educator looking for resources to help you teach components of the Ontario Curriculum? A parent looking for information to talk to your kids? Maybe you are a teen looking for general information, resources and supports.

We have put together some reliable resources that might help.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit Sexual Health Program is currently reviewing the new the Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1-8, Health and Physical Education 2019. Curriculum supports for educators that align with the Healthy Living Strand will be available soon.

For educators seeking information and resources, please contact the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit Sexual Health Program at 705-721-7520 or toll free 1-877-721-7520 to speak to a Public Health Nurse about educational resources.

Talking about sex with your child can be stressful. Planned Parenthood  has some good advice and there are some good tips here as well.

About Kids Health is trusted information from the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto available in multiple languages.

Gay/Trans Parents or if your child is gay The Sherbourne Health Centre can provide information and support.

What is sexting? Sexting is sending and receiving sexual messages through technology such as a phone, app, email or webcam.

The more you know about your body, the more you can  look after your health, and sometimes, the health of others.

SexandU.ca is the website of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, and it’s a great place for information on sexual and reproductive health.

Teen Health Source is a sexual health information service run for and by youth. If you need information about birth control, sexually transmitted infections, healthy relationships, or puberty, it’s all here in a non-judgmental, sex-positive, pro-choice, and inclusive manner. And they have trained teen volunteers who can answer your questions five days a week.

This site has a safer sex: A How-to Guide as well as a plan for your sexual health.

Youth Haven Simcoe County’s only youth shelter.  They support youth experiencing homelessness by providing safe shelter, programs and services, in an atmosphere of respect and dignity.

Youth Line & Kids Help Phone offer confidential and non-judgmental peer support through our telephone, text and chat services
