Food and Nutrition

Portion Sizes

The amount of food you need every day from the four food groups and other foods depends on your age, gender, body size, how much physical activity you get and if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. This is why Canada’s Food Guide provides serving sizes for each food group.

Remember: (PDF) Portions are not servings. Just because something comes served as a portion (e.g. large glass, large bottle, restaurant plate) that doesn't mean it is a serving. If you get to know your serving sizes, it will be easier to keep your portions under control. Check out this video.

Did you know that the size of your plate might make you eat more than you need? Watch this video to learn more.

Try the eaTracker to see how you are doing with your portions.
