Food and Nutrition

What is the purpose of Canada's Food Guide?

Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide defines and promotes healthy eating for Canadians. It puts the science of nutrition and health into a healthy eating pattern. The Food Guide describes the amount and type of food people need. By following Canada’s Food Guide, Canadians will be able to meet their nutrient needs, reduce their risk of obesity and chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain types of cancer and osteoporosis, and achieve overall health and wellness.
Canada’s Food Guide may not be appropriate for those individuals that have been diagnosed with illnesses or chronic diseases that require specific diet modifications.
