Free dental service is available for both children and adults through our Healthy Smiles Dental Clinics in Barrie and Gravenhurst.

For Adults

Free dental service is available to you if you are eligible through a government program:

• Ontario Works (OW)
• Ontario Works Disability Support Program (ODSP)
• Non-Insured Health Benefits for First Nations people and Inuit (NIHB)

For Children

Healthy Smiles Ontario is a government-funded program that provides free dental care for children and youth 17 years old and under from low-income households. This dental program provides free preventative, routine and emergency dental services.

Screening and Prevention Program

Have children in Preschool?

Oral health staff provide education, dental screening and fluoride therapy at various preschool sites includingOntario Early Years Centres, Moms and Tots groups, and day cares.

Have children in Elementary School?

Oral health staff visit elementary schools in Simcoe Muskoka every year. Students in kindergarten (both junior and senior), grade two and grade eight receive a screening by a dental hygienist. Children in other grades may be screened in follow up from a previous year or by parent request.

Parents are notified in advance of the screening date, as well as after the screening if the child needs to see a dentist or if they would benefit from free preventive dental services from the health unit.

Have children in High School?

Teens under 18 may schedule a dental screening appointment at one of the health unit offices.
