Optimizing your safety

In your home

Most falls happen in and around the home. Identifying the hazards in your home is only the first step. It is important to fix the problems you identify, to make your living space safe. If you feel you are not quite up to the job, contact a local contractor or a handy family member, friend or neighbour.
Find out how safe your home is with our Staying Independent Home Safety Checklist.

In your community

Take Action for Safety—Your Voice Matters!

We all share a responsibility to keep our communities safe. If you see something unsafe—whether it’s a broken railing at the park or a spill in a grocery store—don’t stay silent. Speak up!

  • In private spaces? Report the hazard to the owner or manager immediately.
  • In public areas? Contact your city or municipality to ensure the issue is addressed.

One report can prevent an injury. Be the reason someone stays safe.
