Community Action

Everyone can make a difference in helping to improve the lives of those that are most affected by the social determinants of health.

There are many community organizations, agencies, municipalities and individuals in Simcoe Muskoka that are working to address the needs of vulnerable populations, particularly around the issue of poverty. These groups and individuals work in the areas of:

  • housing
  • immigration
  • poverty
  • children, youth and families
  • health
  • resiliency and community development
  • education
  • justice
  • social services
  • and others

Collective action across the region to address the social determinants includes, but is not limited to: increasing community knowledge about the determinants of health, collecting and sharing data, advocating on issues affecting vulnerable populations, and planning services and programs that meet the needs of vulnerable populations.
