Testing at Home with Get A Kit

Getting tested just got way easier. SMDHU has teamed up with GetaKit to offer free, discreet Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infection (STBBI) testing at your local lab and HIV self-testing kits delivered to your home. STBBI testing is available to anyone in Ontario who is 17 years and older and willing to go to a lab for testing.

HIV self-testing is available for anyone in Ontario who is 18 years and older, HIV negative, or unsure of status, not enrolled in an HIV vaccine trial, not diagnosed with a bleeding disorder, sexually active or uses injection drugs. HIV self-testing kits are delivered to your address and test results are available within minutes of testing.

What Tests Are Available Through GetaKit?
GetaKit offers free, discreet testing for:

  • Chlamydia (urine, throat swab, rectal swab)
  • Gonorrhea (urine, throat swab, rectal swab)
  • Syphilis (blood)
  • Hepatitis C (blood)
  • HIV (blood, self-test)

Self-swab kits are used to collect throat and rectal samples for chlamydia and gonorrhea testing. After collecting your samples, the kits can be dropped off at your local lab for processing. Kits can be picked at any of the following Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit offices:

•Huntsville: 34 Chaffey St. (Map) Closed between 12:30p.m. - 1:30p.m.

•Midland: Unit A 925 Hugel Avenue (Georgian Bay District Secondary School) (Map) Closed between 12:30p.m. - 1:30p.m.

•Orillia: 169 Front Street South (The Common Roof) (Map) Closed between 12:30p.m. - 1:30p.m.

 

STBBI and HIV testing is available by printing the on-line lab requisition and taking it to the lab of your choice. Fast, simple, and no awkward waiting rooms. Your results are usually available in 3-7 days.
