It is your right to breastfeed anytime, anywhere! This right is protected
by the Canadian Charter for Rights and Freedoms and the Ontario Human
Rights Code. Parents are able to breastfeed in public areas no matter how
old their children are.
In Public
No one has the right to ask you to stop breastfeeding, cover up, or move to
another area that is more “discreet”. If you are being questioned about
breastfeeding in public, be friendly but firm about your rights. If you
feel your breastfeeding rights are not being respected, you can report what
happened to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
In Workplaces
Employers are required to make sure that their workplace is free from
discrimination related to breastfeeding. The code requires employers to
accommodate employee needs for breastfeeding and expressing breastmilk at
work.
