Based on the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) and Protocols and pursuant to Section 7 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.7.; public health nurses and public health inspectors are responsible for:
- Investigating all suspect and confirmed reportable diseases
- Inspections of Day Nurseries, Personal Service Settings (tattooing, body piercing, salons)
- Ongoing surveillance of hospitals, long-term care homes, and day nurseries
- Responding to infection control concerns raised by the community
