Cannabis Guideline

With the legalization of cannabis, many municipalities are seeking guidance on the public health considerations of implementing the new law as it relates to municipal jurisdiction in Ontario. We have created a guidance document to assist Simcoe Muskoka municipalities with this.

Public Health Guidance for Municipalities on the Implementation of Legalization of Cannabis, highlights considerations for opting in or out of cannabis retail stores. It also covers three areas of potential public interest feedback within municipal responsibility as identified by the Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario: a) public health and safety, b) protecting youth and restricting their access to cannabis, and c) preventing illegal activities in relation to cannabis, from the perspective of protecting public health and by-law options.

The guideline will be updated as new information becomes available.
