  • Lyme Disease: A vector borne disease that can be acquired through the bite of an infected blacklegged tick. Blacklegged ticks can be found in the County of Simcoe and District of Muskoka.  SMDHU will submit ticks that have been found on a person to the Public Health Laboratory for identification. If the tick is identified to be a blacklegged tick, it will be sent to the National Microbiological Laboratory to determine if it is carrying Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease.  Prior to tick submission fill out this form.
