Day Nursery

Parents/guardians of children that are attending day nurseries are required to provide immunization history at the time of registration.  Keeping up- to -date immunization information on record protects all children. If an outbreak of disease happens at a day nursery, the health unit can quickly review children’s immunization records to see who is at risk of becoming ill.

Check for details on how to report your child’s immunization to the health unit by secure on-line form, fax, mail or phone.

Children in day nurseries are exposed to thousands of germs each day.  Some children are not able to be immunized due to medical reasons. These children can become seriously ill or even die from vaccine preventable diseases. By immunizing your child you also protect other children.

Since routine immunization has been recommended in Canada we have seen disease rates decrease.  Many young parents today have not seen the serious complications that disease can cause because of routine immunization practices in our country. Before routine immunization, outbreaks of diseases such as polio and small pox resulted in many deaths. There are areas in Europe and Russia that in the very recent past had an increase of diseases because the immunization schedules were not being followed.

When deciding on immunization, think not only of your child’s health and future, but the numerous playmates he/she will meet in daycare and in life. Keep your child in the best health possible by routinely immunizing, encouraging good handwashing, eating healthy and staying active.
