…of Simcoe Muskoka residents are female and tend to have more child care responsibilities, are less likely to work full time, earn less than men regardless of type of job and experience more discrimination in the work place. Although women’s life expectancy is higher compared to men’s, women have more periods of long-term disability and chronic disease. Men are at more risk for accidents and social isolation that effects their health.

What can be done?

Governments can:

  • Improve and enforce pay equity legislation to improve the employment and economic situation of women.
  • improve access to employment insurance for all part-time workers
