Reporting complaints

It takes more than actions from governments and the health sector to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19, everyone has a role to play. To stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community, it is very important that everyone does their part to practice the public health measures put in place.  

Find out how to report non-compliance for issues such as mandatory quarantine, prohibited gatherings, or other complaints related to COVID-19 within businesses or in public spaces.

On March 25, 2020 the Government of Canada put in place an emergency order under the Quarantine Act requiring all travellers returning to or entering Canada to begin a mandatory 14-day period of isolation/quarantine, regardless of whether any symptoms of COVID-19 are present.

Exemption for eligible fully vaccinated travellers

Effective July 5, 2021, fully vaccinated travellers, arriving by land or air, who are eligible to enter Canada and who comply with specific criteria will not be required to quarantine or complete a day-8 test. More information can be found on the Government of Canada’s website.

The link below provides information and guidance to people under the mandatory 14-day isolation/quarantine period.

Provincial or municipal police can enforce legislation under the Quarantine Act. If you wish to report a case of non-compliance under the Quarantine Act, contact your local police service, using the non-emergency number. Please do not call 911!

To report an incident that exceeds the capacity limits for gatherings listed below, contact your local by-law department during regular business hours or the local police service using the non-emergency number. Please do not call 911!

During Step 3 of Ontario's Roadmap to Reopen, indoor gatherings are limited to 25 people.

Outdoor social gatherings and organized public events of up to 100 people are permitted. This includes outdoor social gatherings associated with a wedding, funeral or a religious service, rite or ceremony.

It is recommended masks or face coverings be worn if physical distancing cannot be maintained indoors or outdoors with individuals from outside your household.

The Ontario government has issued an emergency order that retail businesses and individuals in Ontario cannot charge unfair prices for necessary goods. Consumers can report price gouging on necessary goods by filing a complaint at 1-800-889-9768 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, or by filing a report online.
