  • If you plan to administer publicly funded vaccines at your facility, you are required to complete the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) vaccine fridge inspection process.
  • Please contact the Immunization Program (IP) at SMDHU to review your opening plans and create a timeline for the storage and handling requirements that must be met before you can place your first vaccine order with us.
  • A Public Health Nurse (PHN) will review storage and handling practices with the person most responsible for the maintenance/ordering of vaccines and will book the inspection for your new fridge.
  • A PHN will arrange for you to receive these free resources:
  • Vaccine Storage and Handling Guidelines (MOHLTC, 2012)
  • Hard-sided cooler
  • 3 Ice Packs
  • 2 Cryopak insulating blankets
  • 1 min/max thermometer for cooler (purchase of the fridge temperature monitoring device, thermometer or data logger, is the facility’s responsibility)
  • Hard copies of current Vaccine Storage and Handling resources
  • Publicly Funded vaccines will not be released by SMDHU until your fridge has passed an inspection and your facility has met the MOHLTC vaccine storage and handling requirements for the current year.
  • A PHN will walk you through your first vaccine order using the SMDHU system.

To begin the process, please contact the Immunization Program at:

705-721-7520, or toll free at 1- 877-721-7520, ext. 8806
