Fall prevention

Falls are a significant public health issue, being the #1 reason for injury related deaths in Simcoe Muskoka.

Children fall at home in the early years, then at the playground as they get older.  Playground injuries are a significant cause of emergency room visits. Sport and recreation is associated with more than 1/3 of traumatic brain injury emergency room visits.  Concussions are common with fall injuries.

Older Adults are at risk of falling.  The risk of having a fall increases with age and with declining health.  Fall related injury requiring hospitalizations increases exponentially with age.  Please visit our healthy ageing pages for information on how to reduce your risk of a fall.
