Naloxone saves lives

Naloxone can reverse an opioid overdose.  Opioids are drugs that are usually used to treat pain, but some people use them to get high. Naloxone acts quickly, within 1 to 5 minutes, to block the effects of opioids in the brain and cannot get a person high. People who get a Naloxone kit will receive training on how to give it, call 911 and stay until help arrives.

People who use opioids, their friends, and family, can get a free kit without a prescription by calling the health unit at 705-721-7520. Training and kits are available at Health Unit locations in Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka.
