Return to School

We are committed to supporting the safe reopening of schools for the 2020-2021 school year under the Ministry of Education’s Guide to reopening Ontario’s schools.

In September, all elementary (Kindergarten to Grade 8) schools in Ontario opened for conventional in-person teaching and instruction, five days a week. Parents will continue to have the option to opt into at home remove learning at different points in the school year. Secondary schools in our area also opened in the conventional teaching model. All schools reopened with enhanced health and safety protocols in place under the direction of the Ministry of Education and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

Strategies to protect students, teachers and staff are being used to provide a safe and healthy school environment for and to protect the broader community. In general students in Grades 4 to 12 are required to wear a face covering while on the bus and also indoors on school property. Students may wear their own non-medical masks, and non-medical masks will also be made available for students. Some exceptions to the face covering requirement will apply. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 will be encouraged but not required to wear a face covering in indoor spaces. Please check with your child’s school board as to the policies they have put in place regarding face coverings as they differ across our region. Teachers are required to wear medical masks and school-based staff who are regularly in close contact with students will be required to wear additional personal protective equipment (PPE).
