Locals offered seminar on positive parenting

Parents of young children are invited to an evening seminar on raising competent, confident children on Wednesday, June 13 in Huntsville.

Parents of young children are invited to an evening seminar on raising competent, confident children on Wednesday, June 13 in Huntsville.

The seminar takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Huntsville Public School.

The seminar teaches parents how to use positive parenting strategies to teach children important values and skills such as encouraging respect and cooperation; being considerate; having good communication and social skills; encouraging friendship; learning to develop a healthy self-esteem; learning to become good problem solvers and learning to be independent.

This workshop is part of the system of programs and services known as Triple P – Positive Parenting Program, which aims to promote children’s development and manage children’s behaviour in a constructive and non-hurtful way.

The seminar is offered jointly by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and Family, Youth and Child Services of Muskoka.

Those who wish to attend are asked to pre-register with name and number of people attending by calling Krista McDonald, Family, Youth and Child Services of Muskoka, Community Based Children’s Mental Health Manager at 705-645-4426 ext. 231.
