If you are ready to try to quit smoking but need help to succeed, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit can assist with free nicotine patches and support at an upcoming quit smoking workshop.

It’s part of the STOP program being offered in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. It is open to 50 eligible participants who will receive a free, five-week supply of the nicotine replacement patch when they attend the workshop being held in Wasaga Beach on Wednesday, November 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

A morning workshop is also slated for Midland on Tuesday, November 15 from 9 a.m. till noon.

“We know there are lots of local people who want to stop smoking. If they are motivated to quit, we hope they will take part in the program,” says Public Health Nurse Penny Rush. “There are some restrictions on who is eligible to participate so it is important that people call our Health Connection line to register.”

As well as the nicotine replacement therapy patch, participants will receive educational material to support their quit attempt. For more information and to register for the STOP program workshop call Your Health Connection weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520.
