Eight great reasons to commit to quit in 2016

  1. It is the single best think you can do to protect your health.
  2. You will become a positive role model for your kids.
  3. As soon as you stop, your body begins to heal itself.
  4. You will save lots of money, and who doesn’t want extra money!
  5. You won’t be alone in quitting – nearly half of all people who smoke want to quit.
  6. You’ll become one of the tobacco-free majority – the 80% of residents who don’t smoke.
  7. If you’re between the ages of 18-29 you could win cash in the WoulduRather.ca contest.
  8. Help is close by at a Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit free STOP Smoking workshop that includes free nicotine replacement therapy and counselling. Check out their website www.simcoemuskokahealth.org for more information and support.

Take the Weedless Wednesday challenge

SIMCOE MUSKOKA - This Wednesday is Weedless Wednesday and time for the annual stop challenge.

Regardless of what kind of tobacco industry products you use cigarettes, cigars, chew or e-cigarettes — the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is asking you to challenge yourself to quit for the day.

If a full day seems too hard right now, how about stopping from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Or start with smaller chunks of time — don’t light up till after the lunch hour, or limit your cigarettes for the day to half the normal number you smoke.

Want support? Call the Health Connection for resources to help you build on your success. 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
