Give yourself the gift of better health this Christmas

SIMCOE MUSKOKA - The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has more than a dozen STOP on the Road workshops planned over the next few months to help adults break their addiction with tobacco. Two December workshops, being held in Midland and Barrie, can help you be on your way to being smoke free by the New Year.

SIMCOE MUSKOKA - The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has more than a dozen STOP on the Road workshops planned over the next few months to help adults break their addiction with tobacco. Two December workshops, being held in Midland and Barrie, can help you be on your way to being smoke free by the New Year.

In the three-hour workshop participants will learn how to properly use the free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) they will be given. A public health nurse will also provide counselling to help increase the chances of a successful quit attempt.

Free 5-week supply of the patch

The workshops are being help in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, which is making the five-week supply of nicotine patches available at no charge.

December workshops dates are:

Midland                     Thursday, December 10               1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Barrie                         Thursday, December 17               12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Pre-registration is required to participate in a workshop. To register call Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or toll free at 1-877-721-7520 weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional workshops will be added throughout the coming year. An up-to-date list can be found on the health unit’s website at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org .

Tobacco use remains the number one cause of preventable death and disease in Canada. Quitting is the single best thing a tobacco user can do to protect and improve their health.
