Addiction Awareness Week: a chronic condition

Nov 21, 2014
Do you know what diabetes, cancer, heart disease and addiction all have in common?

Do you know what diabetes, cancer, heart disease and addiction all have in common?

All are chronic conditions; they are long lasting and often develop slowly over a period of time. What do they also have in common?  No one ever chooses to have any of them. To have diabetes, cancer, heart disease or addiction is not a choice.

Successful recovery from addiction also occurs over long periods of time. Recovery involves self-change and/or multiple treatments and sometimes overcoming relapse.

We see what we want to see. See that addiction is not a choice.
