It’s Weedless Wednesday and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is issuing a challenge to the last 22% of people in our region who still smoke.

SIMCOE MUSKOKA – It’s Weedless Wednesday and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is issuing a challenge to the last 22% of people in our region who still smoke.

  • Challenge yourself to go without smoking or using chew tobacco all day today.
  • Think that’s too hard? Then start smaller.

Every time you reach for tobacco, hold off having it for 10 minutes, then 10 minutes more.

  • If you still have trouble being weedless today but you know you want to quit, start smaller!

Put together a quit plan that includes a quit date and the supports that will help you succeed.

Decide what your motivation for success is – your health? Your kids? Saving money?

Set a quit date and tell people; ask for their moral support.

Talk to a pharmacist or your doctor about nicotine replacement patches, inhalers, gum and prescription drugs designed to help reduce your cravings.

Contact Smokers’ Helpline for FREE one-to-one telephone or text support. (www.smokershelpline.ca)

Go online to www.DrivenToQuit.ca and sign up for the 2014 Driven to Quit Challenge. If you quit by March 1 and stay quit for a month you have a chance to win a 2014 Dodge Avenger or Journey or $1,000 cash.

Take the challenge!  Call Health Connection for more information at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
