Without vaccine records, students face suspension

Two weeks ago the health unit sent out more than 2,600 suspension notices to parents of school children.

With just a few days left, several hundred children still risk being suspended from classes, unless their immunization records are updated with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

It’s part of the annual effort needed to collect updated records for all of the roughly 90,000 students attending local schools.

If you received the notice it means one of two things:

  1. Your child’s immunizations are not up to date.
  2. You have not let the health unit know about your child’s latest vaccines.

To update your child’s records with the health unit, you can use the online form at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org/immsonline.

  • You can also fax the records to 705-721-1495
  • Or call Your Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1877-721-7520 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Or mail the records to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, 15 Sperling Drive, Barrie, ON L4M 6K9.

You have until October 18 to get this information to the health unit to prevent your child from being suspended from school.

The health unit is required by law to collect this information to protect all students in the event of outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases in school settings. For more information on immunization and suspensions, visit www.simcoemuskokahealth.org and look for Immunization under Topics.
