Outbreak Prevention & Management

Child care centres present specific risks for the spread of illness because large groups of children share the same rooms, toys/activities, eating spaces and bathroom facilities. In addition, many children are still in diapers, have developing immune systems and decreased hygienic practices. Child care operators are legally required to report suspect or confirmed outbreaks to their local health unit.

We are here to help you manage outbreaks in your centre by providing information on infectious diseases that can cause illness. This information includes signs and symptoms of enteric and respiratory illnesses and how to reduce the spread of germs to your staff and children in your care.

We have developed the following tools to guide you through the outbreak process.

If you require further information, please contact the Infectious Disease Team at 1-877-721-7520 ext. 8809, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
