TOWNSHIP OF MUSKOKA LAKES – Based on water sample results received today from the Township of Muskoka Lakes, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has re-opened Windermere Beach for swimming.
The beach was closed and the health unit issued precautions about private drinking water supplies that draw from the Windermere Park area of Lake Rosseau after a small fuel spill into Lake Rosseau from a boat at the Windermere Marina on July 13. The Canadian Coast Guard monitored the cleanup.
The health unit continues to recommend to cottagers and residents in this area that private water supplies not be used if a sheen or fuel smell is present in surface water nearby and that an alternate water source be used.
Any time there is concern about the safety of drinking water from a well or private supply, samples can be submitted to a public health or licensed laboratory for testing. More information about testing water is can be found on the health unit website www.simcoemuskokahealth.org or call Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
