Apr 03, 2019
MIDLAND – The Midland office of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit will be closed for the week of April 15 to 19 while the office is relocated to its new home within the freshly built Georgian Bay District Secondary School.

MIDLAND – The Midland office of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit will be closed for the week of April 15 to 19 while the office is relocated to its new home within the freshly built Georgian Bay District Secondary School.

The move allows the health unit to continue its longstanding partnership with the Simcoe County District School board, along with the school community at the former Midland Secondary School.

The health unit will resume operations in the new location on Tuesday, April 23 following the Easter weekend.

A variety of services will be affected during the move.

  • Sexual health, dental and immunization clinics have been cancelled or rescheduled.
  • Homeowners will not be able to drop off well water samples for testing. The last day for bottle drop off will be Thursday, April 11, and the service will resume when the office reopens on April 23.
  • Vaccine pickup will not be available; alternate arrangements are available for medical offices.
  • Needle exchange services will not be available, but the service remains available through the Canadian Mental Health Association on 337 Midland Avenue, and Chigamik Community Health Centre on 845 King Street.
  • Naloxone kits will not be available, but can be obtained at any pharmacy.

The Midland office will be located in the east wing of the new secondary school, which was built next door to the old high school. Staff and students moved into the new GBDSS earlier this winter in time for the start of the second semester.

Located on a public transit route, the office is accessible to all members of the public.

The new office will continue its regular hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, with closures from 12:30 to 1:30 daily. The new address will be 925 A, Hugel Avenue, Midland, L4R 1X8.

The health unit is grateful for the opportunity to continue its operations in Midland in partnership with Georgian Bay District Secondary School and the Simcoe County District School Board.

While the office is moving, any urgent issues can be directed to the Health Connection line at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
