Infectious Diseases

Based on the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) and Protocols and pursuant to Section 7 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.7.; public health nurses and public health inspectors are responsible for:

  • Investigating all suspect and confirmed reportable diseases
  • Inspections of Day Nurseries, Personal Service Settings (tattooing, body piercing, salons)
  • Ongoing surveillance of hospitals, long-term care homes, and day nurseries
  • Responding to infection control concerns raised by the community
