Secondary School Program

  • The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reviews records of students registered in Simcoe County/District of Muskoka.
  • Parents (or students, if 16 years of age or older) are responsible for ensuring the health unit has the most up to date immunization record on file.
  • Students who do not have complete records will receive a letter requesting immunization information.
  • Not responding to the letter puts the student at risk for suspension from school.

What do I need to know about secondary school immunization?

  • Current Secondary Students in Ontario are required to be immunized against:
    • Tetanus
    • Diphtheria
    • Polio
    • Pertussis
    • Measles
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Meningitis
  • Check the immunization record for each student in your household.
  • If a record is missing one of the vaccines from the list above:
    • Contact your health provider to get the date of the vaccine was given, or make an appoint to get the missing vaccines
    • Share any updates with the health unit
  • Health care providers do not provide the health unit with information when they give immunizations to students.
  • Up-to-date immunization records are important as students prepare to enter the workforce, college, or university.

What happens if a student receives an immunization notice?
