Healthy Living Service

Healthy Living Service staff strive to improve the health of the entire population in Simcoe Muskoka District.  This is done by working with people to make informed choices toward improving their health and preventing chronic disease and injury, and by advocating for improved quality of life in the community.  Areas of program responsibility include Violence and Injury Prevention, Chronic Disease Prevention, Early Detection of Cancer and Health Connection – the Health Unit’s telephone response program that provides access to health information and resources on all Health Unit programs and services.  In addition two provincially funded projects Think Clear – an initiative aimed at reducing substance use and abuse, and Good for Life – a community based heart health initiative are also within the Healthy Living Service.

Family Health Service

The Family Health Service promotes healthy development of individuals, families and communities through the programs of Healthy Babies, Healthy Children, Reproductive and Child Health.

We believe:

  • Each family develops and changes continually.
  • The capacity of a family to nurture its members varies from family to family and changes over time.
  • Individuals influence and are influenced by their families.
  • Communities are comprised of individuals and families with unique needs, goals and abilities.
  • Communities have an important role to play in supporting families and in creating an environment where children can grow and learn successfully.
