Alcohol and Pregnancy

There is no safe amount or safe time to drink alcohol when you are pregnant. If you drink any type of alcohol while you are pregnant, you are at risk of having a baby with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Every year thousands of unborn babies are exposed to alcohol. Because a developing baby breaks down alcohol more slowly than an adult does, even small amounts in the mothers’ system can create high blood levels for the baby, leading to permanent brain damage.  Follow this link for information about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) English / Français, the spectrum of disabilities (and diagnoses) associated with drinking alcohol during pregnancy.
