Get Your Move On (Intended for Youth 12-17)

Youth aged 12-17 need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity every day and more is better.  Moderate to vigorous means your heart rate and breathing have increased.

Find ways to be active at lunch or before and after school. Get your friends in on the fun and just move. ü Ask about using the school gymnasium at lunch for a game of volleyball or basketball or to organize a yoga class.
  • Ask about using the school gymnasium at lunch for a game of volleyball or basketball or to organize a yoga class.
  • Make use of an empty track or soccer field to take a lunch time walk with friends.
  • Ask your principal or school council about fundraisers that support students to be active.
  • Use active modes to get to school – dust off the bike, board, and skates or just walk with friends.
By increasing your daily physical activity you’ll have stronger bones and muscles, improved fitness, increased relaxation, improved posture, balance and flexibility, a healthy weight, opportunities to learn something new and meet with friends. You’ll just feel better for it.

So ask yourself, how will I move for 60 minutes today?
