Children need to be moving and playing. Physical activity is essential for healthy growth and development. Parents play a key role in helping their children to be active by role modeling, providing praise and being actively involved. Children aged 5-11 need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity every day and more is better. This means your child's heart rate and breathing have increased.
Elementary schools are helping children to meet these goals by supporting “Daily Physical Activity or DPA”. The Ministry of Education aims to ensure students are receiving at least 20 minutes of sustained moderate to vigorous physical activity each day during instructional time. Making activity a regular part of the day will show children that it's important to be healthy and active - a lesson that can stay with them for life.
