Ontario’s kids might score slightly higher in physical activity than the national average, but there is room for improvement.
That picture emerges from the first-ever Ontario Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, released in October 2011. The provincial report card follows on the heels of Canada’s seventh Healthy Active Kids report card.
Physical activity benefits mental health, body image and weight, physical health, school performance and skill development.
The report card’s theme is Ontario’s Kids are Missing in Action. It shows grades for different aspects of physical activity in Ontario are slightly higher than the national average. A few highlights from the Canadian and Ontario report cards follow.
