Unplug and Play

Help Kids to “Unplug and Play”

  • Unplug and PlayBe a good role model. Make time for family physical activity and explain why it’s important. Limit your own TV, video and computer time.
  • Give gifts that encourage play, such as skipping ropes, balls and sports equipment.
  • Limit TV and screen time to no more than 2 hours per day.
  • Assign active chores like gardening, vacuuming or washing the car.
  • Walk with your children to school instead of driving them.
  • Plan fun things to get the whole family moving such as a scavenger hunt on a local trail.
  • Turn off the TV during meals.
  • Volunteer to coach a team or lead a scout group.
  • Get to know your neighbours and together plan active events like picnics, trail walks, and other fun outdoor games.
  • Speak up in favour of things that make walking and wheeling in your community a safe and easy choice for all ages.
