Child Water Safety

Drowning is the second leading cause of preventable death for children under 10 years of age. (Lifesaving Society)

Top Tips to Swim Safe

  • Actively supervise your child in the water. If you do not know how to swim, do not take your child swimming.
  • Keep your child within sight and reach if they are under the age of five years.
  • Make sure your home swimming pool has fencing all around it. Four sided fencing is safest and should be at least four feet high with a childproof gate.
  • Get your child trained in water safety but do not assume this alone will keep them from drowning.

Additional Water Safety Tips to Consider

  • Wear a lifejacket at all times when boating.
  • Don't use bath seats for infants in the bathtub.
