Where Can I Get Immunization?

Immunizations are frequently provided by health care professionals at routine visits. Immunizations may also be available at some walk-in-clinics and by appointment at most local Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit offices. Hospital emergency departments may provide vaccine for an injury such as a bad cut, stepping on a nail or being bitten by an animal.

Most health care providers offer routine immunizations that are publicly funded, as well as, those that may require payment such as Hepatitis A, Twinrix, and Gardasil. These vaccines may be covered through some health care plans.

School based vaccine programs for grade 7 and 8 students are only publicly funded if offered at school clinics or health unit offices. Health care providers are required to charge for vaccines offered by the health unit as a part of the publicly funded grade 7 and 8 school based programs.

The Health Unit will provide any publicly funded and some non publicly funded vaccines. If you wish to make an appointment to receive immunization at the health unit, please contact the vaccine preventable disease team at 705-721-7520 or 877-721-7520 ext. 8807.  For a list of clinics and locations please click here.

If your infant or young child attends an appointment for vaccine at a health unit clinic with a caregiver who is not their parent, please note the following:

  • A parent, legal guardian or substitute decision maker (as per the Health Care Consent Act) should  read the related vaccine fact sheet and sign the consent form for those unable to give their own informed consent to receive the
    vaccine(s).
  • Young children or those unable to make their own informed consent will not be provided with the vaccine without written consent as noted above. A handwritten form of permission from a parent, legal guardian or substitute decision maker will also be accepted.
