HPV vaccine

Important information aboutthe HPV vaccine
for Grade 8 girls and their parents

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit offered the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine series to all grade 8 girls in the fall of 2007. Students who consented to receive the vaccine at school received the first and second doses in the fall of 2007; the third dose will be given in the spring of 2008.

Girls who did not receive the HPV vaccine at school still have the opportunity to get the vaccine. You can book an appointment at a health unit clinic. Any doses received prior to the first day of grade 9 are still available free. Three doses are required to complete the HPV vaccine series.

After the first day of grade 9, the HPV vaccine is available at a cost through your health care provider or the health unit. The cost per dose is approximately $135.00 (it may be covered by some health care plans).
