Studies that compare organic food to food grown by other methods are difficult to interpret because many factors affect nutritional quality of the food such as the quality of soil, temperature and light during the growing season, and the type of seeds planted. In most situations, these factors are not controlled so comparisons cannot be accurately made. This makes it difficult to draw conclusions.
Like any food, purchasing organic food should be a personal choice, a choice that will depend upon its availability, price, sensory qualities and personal values. While researchers continue to study the differences between organic food and other foods, Canadians should focus on choosing vegetables and fruit more often, whether they are organic or not.
