Children In Need of Treatment (CINOT) Dental Program

Do you know a child who is in need of dental care, but the family doesn’t have the money to pay?

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit may be able to help.  It has a program that pays for dental care for children with serious dental problems.

Who is eligible for this coverage?

  • Children and youth up to their 18th birthday
  • If they have dental pain, infection, large cavities, bleeding gums or have injured their mouth

Children may be part of this program if the parents:

  • have no dental plan
  • cannot afford to pay for their child to go to the dentist

Is all dental care covered?

No.  Basic care, such as fillings, x-rays, extractions and most root canal treatments are covered. Polishing teeth, bleaching and orthodontics (braces) are NOT covered.

How is a child enrolled in the program?

The child/youth is seen by Oral Health Services at the health unit.  Children are screened by a registered dental hygienist, either at school or at a health unit office. As well, dental providers may send treatment plans and x-rays to the health unit for approval.

Can parents arrange to have their child’s teeth looked at?

Yes!
