Enough cannot be said about the importance of screening in preventing, detecting and curing colorectal cancer. It is simply your best line of defense when it comes to protecting yourself from this deadly disease. You are not see-through.

The Government of Ontario, in collaboration with Cancer Care Ontario, has created ColonCancerCheck, a province-wide screening program.

The Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT)

A Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) is a simple self-administered test that can be done in the privacy of your own home. It involves you collecting a small sample of your stool on three different days. The Fecal Occult Blood Test kit includes a detailed instruction sheet so you will know just what to do.

  • If you are 50 and over and at average risk for colorectal cancer, you can get a Fecal Occult Blood Test kit simply by asking your health care provider for one.
  • Fecal Occult Blood Test kits are free.
  • If you don't have a health care provider or require information on how to get your take home Fecal Occult Blood Test kit, call INFOline at 1-866-410-5853.

Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is recommended for some people as part of the screening process.
