Breastfeeding

What is Formula?

  • Infant formula is a milk-based product developed to replace human breast milk.  That is why formula is often called a breast milk substitute.
  • Formula contains the basic nutrients required to support the growth and development of human babies.
  • It may be made with cow’s milk, or from soy, and will have some other nutrients added to it.
  • There are some risks of formula feeding that all parents have a right to know about.

For more information about the use of breast milk substitutes, call (705) 721-7520, or click Your Health Connection and speak with a public health nurse.
