Sexual Health - Teacher Manual

Sexual Health Teacher Manual (Grade 7&8): In 2010 SMDHU partnered with the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) to collaborate and develop user friendly lesson plans that reflect current best practices and high yield instructional strategies. The process drew on technical and academic expertise of Grade 7 & 8 teachers and secondary school department chairs in tandem with sexual health expertise of the public health nurses (PHNs). As a result of this cooperative relationship, the team was able to create a number of user-friendly lesson plans that follow the Ontario Curriculum Guidelines. These lesson plans incorporate sexual health education into the numeracy and literacy components of the curriculum and can be used throughout the school year; thus keeping sexual health as an integral part of the entire learning experience.

The teacher developed lesson plans were based on the 1998 Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1-8: Health & Physical Education “Growth and Development”.

To access the current curriculum for all other Health & Physical Education topics please see Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1-8: Health and Physical Education, Interim Edition, 2010 (revised).

NOTE: The sexual health resources that are included in this teacher manual are identified as a reference for teachers ONLY.  You will need to follow your board/school policies related to sexual health curriculum.  Based on these policies you can determine which, if any, of the materials are appropriate for student reference or handout.
