Public health nurses (PHNs) on the Healthy Schools team work with schools to create and support a safe, caring and healthy school environment. PHNs annually visit schools in their local geographic area to provide an opportunity for a brief assessment of the health related needs of the school, provide information about health unit and community programs and services, offer support, and assist with referrals.
Currently, Healthy School PHNs provide outreach to schools in Barrie, Georgian West, Muskoka, North Simcoe, and Orillia.
For those schools that would like to become a Healthy School, support to assess the strengths and issues of your school community, and to plan and implement activities to address identified issues is available. Click here for more information about becoming a Healthy School.
