…of Simcoe Muskoka residents reported being unemployed.

People who are unemployed, work in low paying jobs, have part time or seasonal work, or have poor working conditions are at higher risk of stress, injury, high blood pressure and heart disease.

What can be done?

You can:

  • Learn about workers’ rights in Ontario.
  • Learn about the local living wage and how it supports people to earn enough to have a decent standard of living.

Communities can: Support local businesses that pay a living wage and provide decent full time work.

Governments can:

  • Increase the minimum wage to $15/hr equally for all Ontario workers with no exemptions regarding sector or age.
  • Protect all working people by providing paid sick days, equal pay for equal work, sufficient hours of work, predictable scheduling, and paid leave for survivors of domestic/sexual violence
  • Provide safe and supportive workplaces that are free of the risk of injury and harassment.
