The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is offering measles immunization clinics tomorrow, Friday April 11, 2014, to those who think they may need to be immunized, at the following health unit locations

SIMCOE MUSKOKA – The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is offering measles immunization clinics tomorrow, Friday April 11, 2014, to those who think they may need to be immunized, at the following health unit locations:

Cookstown:  2-25 King Street South, Cookstown

Collingwood: 280 Pretty River Parkway, Collingwood

Barrie: 15 Sperling Drive, Barrie

All clinics are offered between the hours of 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., and 1 - 4 p.m. Please bring your yellow immunization card with you. Those who have already received two measles immunizations (MMR or MMRV) are considered fully immunized.

Anyone displaying symptoms should NOT come to the immunization clinics. They should call their health care provider and tell them that they have been exposed to measles. DO NOT go to your health care provider’s office/medical clinic/hospital without letting them know you think you may have measles, so that they can take precautions to prevent spreading it to others.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads easily, particularly to those who are not immune or are vulnerable. Symptoms are cold-like and include cough and fever, sore eyes that may be sensitive to light, a red rash that lasts for up to five days and sometimes small white spots on the inside of the mouth.

For more information call Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520, speak to a nurse at one of the clinics, or visit www.simcoemuskokahealth.org.
