The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is encouraging residents to get vaccinated against H1N1 and seasonal influenza at one of its final public health clinics this week, which end as of Saturday December 12.
“Immunization is still our best defense against influenza, both H1N1 and the seasonal flu,” said Dr. Charles Gardner, the health unit’s medical officer of health. “We are encouraging anyone who is considering being immunized to visit one of our clinics this week.”
Clinics are available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday in six geographic locations, including some smaller communities throughout the region. Residents may also be able to be immunized against H1N1 and seasonal influenza by a participating healthcare practitioner, or if available, through a workplace clinic.
As of December 5 the health unit had immunized almost 55,000 people at its H1N1 flu clinics, as well as 4,350 people against seasonal influenza. More than 104,000 doses of the vaccine have been distributed to those healthcare providers participating in the program.
A full list of clinic locations is available at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org or by calling Your Health Connection Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (705) 721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520.
