The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is encouraging residents to get vaccinated against H1N1 through participating health care providers, or at public health clinics, which have been expanded into December and include new locations.
“We have a long flu season ahead of us and having as many of our residents vaccinated as possible will help to reduce the number of people who become ill, sometimes seriously,” said Dr. Charles Gardner, the health unit’s medical officer of health. “We encourage everyone who is considering being immunized to seek out one of the vaccination options, either through their health care provider or at one of our clinics.”
The clinics will operate four days a week in six geographic locations, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, until Saturday, Dec. 12. Several new clinic locations have been scheduled in smaller communities throughout the region.
As of Nov. 24 the health unit had immunized almost 40,000 people at its H1N1 flu clinics. Turnout at the clinics remains strong, but good line management has resulted in minimal waits. More than 91,000 doses of the vaccine have been distributed to those health care providers participating in the program.
A full list of clinic locations is available at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org or by calling Your Health Connection Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (705) 721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520.
